10 Months!

10 months ~ unbelievable!! Michael is growing by leaps and bounds! He continues to be a very happy, loving and affectionate boy - we are blessed!! Michael seems to mostly be a Mama's boy but there are times when HE WANTS HIS DADDY (especially when Daddy comes home)! He still says "DaDa" and not "MaMa" ~ I work on that one every day! He is now crawling everywhere, but on his belly. If he sees something that he really likes, he goes super fast to get to it and it is so hilarious to watch. He is intrigued by anything that will open and close. He is very proud of himself if he closes a door in the house. He loves to "play" the piano. It is so cute to watch ~ if I leave sheet music out, he will turn the page, play the piano a little bit, turn another page, play the piano a little bit...we might have a future musician on our hands! :) He can now self-feed with Baby Mum Mums and graham crackers. He has absolutely no interest in puffs, wagon wheels or cheerios. He also cannot tolerate foods that have a chunky texture (Stage 3 foods)...he will gag and throw up. We are hoping and praying this will not be an issue in the coming month or two. As I have mentioned before he loves phones and as it turns out, he knows more than I do! One day he was playing with the phone and all of the sudden I heard our answering machine messages playing on the phone, I didn't even know it could do that! Michael taught Mommy something new. Michael's favorite game is peek-a-boo and he now initiates the action. He pulls his burp cloth (of course it is always with him b/c he won't go without) up over his eyes and waits for you to say, "Where's Michael?" and then he quickly pulls it down and smiles...repeat about 10 times! His newest accomplishment is pulling up to stand...and as of yesterday he can pull up and stand in his crib ~ yikes! Looks like we'll have to lower the crib mattress again soon. I wonder if he will skip crawling off of his belly and go straight to walking? I am in no hurry for him to walk! One of his favorite activities is to BOUNCE, BOUNCE, BOUNCE...in his exersaucer, on your lap, etc... This month Michael attended his first VBS while Mommy taught the "big kids." He had a great week! He was the only boy in his class. I was so surprised and delighted when I picked him up on the last day to receive all of the precious crafts he did all week ~ I had no idea! I will forever treasure his hand print, foot print and pictures. He already has his first "art work" hanging on the refrigerator! Michael also attended his first Richards Reunion 4th of July weekend. He did not, however, get to go to his first 4th of July Parade/BBQ in Friendswood b/c we had an unexpected "evacuation" from our home to G-Daddy and NaNaw's for 5 days. Our AC fan motor went out and a new one had to be ordered. No way we could stay in our home with the HOT Texas heat, so we packed up and went to G-Daddy's. We were blessed to soak up their AC and for Michael to get in some good loving and play time with G-Daddy and NaNaw. Michael also had his first modeling gig ~ LOL! My friend has started her own business making baby clothes and she asked if Michael would be her boy model. He is super cute if I do say so myself! VBS 2011 ~ Big Apple Adventure Crawling to cousin Billy at the Richards Reunion Pulling up in the crib Standing up in the crib! I took a ton of shots and sadly this was the best one. My camera is a bit delayed and all the super cute smiling/laughing pictures ended up like this. :(

First Father's Day!!

Happy first Father's Day to Adam!!

We began our celebration on Friday with a Father's Day meal with Grand-Daddy at Pappasito's. We met him half-way. Next was a trip to Gander Mountain...we came out with two boxes of ammo for Adam and a bear puppet for Michael. Saturday morning Adam was served breakfast in bed: His favorite fruit kolaches from his favorite bakery in League City. I think this was his favorite part of the whole weekend. On Saturday we had dinner at one of his favorite restaurants: The Classic Cafe in Seabrook. He loves their oyster po-boys. Sunday he was surprised to see a picture of he and Michael in their matching UT shirts in the slide slow at church in honor of Father's Day. Michael and I gave him a membership to a local shooting club and "The World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt in the above picture. I'm not sure he remembers (I do), but a long time ago as we were in the midst of dealing with our infertility, he said, "When I'm a Dad I want a shirt that says World's Greatest Dad!" After church Adam wanted to visit his Dad's grave as well as both of his grandpa's, so that's just what we did. He finished off the day by shooting his rifle. It made me happy to hear as we were going to sleep Sunday night, "Thank you for a wonderful first Father's Day!" I love my husband and am so thankful that Michael and I have him...we are blessed!! He is a wonderful Daddy and very deserving of his t-shirt! ;)

9 Months!

My baby is growing so fast! We are already starting plans for his first birthday, how can it be? He is such a joy and is learning new things everyday. He gets a kick out of opening and closing a book all by himself, over and over. He is fascinated with what his fingers and hands can now do. He wants to grab EVERYTHING! He is not crawling yet, but he is working on it! Michael has an obsession with phones and remotes...what is so attractive about those things to babies? If I am on the phone he wants to be right there with me and wants to "help" hold it. He is a smart boy...one night at 4 am he woke up and whined just a little, then he went to the opposite end of his crib, reached up and turned the music part of his mobile on, then went back to sleep! He has been turning it on ever since ~ smart boy! He is talking up a storm, especially, "Da Da Da Da!" Daddy is oh so very proud of this accomplishment. Mommy is seriously working on "Ma Ma Ma Ma!" He gets great joy from grabbing mommy's water bottle, I mean he will laugh out loud...every time! He will choose my water bottle over toys, go figure! He is eating three meals a day. He had his first swim on Memorial Day and did not like it much at all. I really thought he would love it because he loves bath time. I think the water was too cold. We'll try again soon. He now has 6 teeth, 4 on top and 2 on bottom. He graduated to a big boy car seat because he was too long and weighed too much for the infant carrier. :(
His 9 month check-up is on June 17 and we are so curious about his height and weight.

He loves to tump over his toy baskets and dig through his "treasures."

First ride in his new car seat.

First swim

G-Daddy and NaNaw came for a visit!

We went to visit Grandma.

Little bit of cousin time with cutie Olivia on Memorial Day (notice the beloved water bottle).

8 Months!

"What are these things on my monkey's feet?"

"Seriously Mom, how many times do I have to sit here with my monkey?"

"I'm really serious!!"

Again, I can't believe how fast another month has gone by. I am sad when I think that in just 4 quick months my baby will be a one year old ~ yikes! It has been so fun to see him learn and do more things this month. He has two teeth on top, making a total of four teeth (2 top and 2 bottom). He is eating solid food twice a day now. Separation and stranger anxiety has kicked in BIG TIME! He gets so excited when Daddy comes home from work. He follows Daddy with his eyes for the rest of the evening if he's not in his arms...so sweet! He has mastered sitting up without assistance, but eventually he gets tired and falls to the side or on his back.
He is attached to his burp cloth; not a particular one, any of them. He likes to hold it and chew on it. Sometimes he lets it just hang out of his mouth, hands free. Speaking of chewing, he loves to chew on wet wash clothes and suck the water out ~ funny boy! One of his favorite things to do is SPLASH and KICK in his rubber ducky bath tub. My boy loves bath time! His other favorite activity is watching Daisy, the cat...watching from the glass door that is, she is NOT allowed in the house. Every time we walk by he squeals and kicks his legs with excitement. So I put his boppy pillow in front of the door and sat him down in it (he can sit up great I just didn't want him to accidentally fall back and hit the wood floor). He sat there watching Daisy for 10 minutes! I couldn't believe it. This is the boy who won't let Mommy out of his sight, but for 10 minutes he didn't care where I was as long as he could see Daisy.

The beloved burp cloth (security blanket)!

So cute!

Michael's Baby Dedication on Mother's Day

1 Samuel 1:26-28
"I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord."

I am so thankful for my gift from the Lord ~ Michael Addison Richards! What a joy to celebrate this gift on Mother's Day. I shed many tears of joy and was way more emotional on Sunday than I had anticipated. My emotions just overflowed from the build up of childless Mother's days over the years...to finally stand up with all the moms in the congregation, to receive a rose for being a mom, to be wished "Happy Mother's Day," and best of all to hug and love on my child on Mother's Day! Earlier in the week I wrote Brandy (Michael's birth mother) a letter to express my heart and my thankfulness to her for giving me my first Mother's day. She called on Sunday afternoon to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, again the tears flowed.
Adam did a great job honoring and celebrating me. On Friday he came home with flowers and took me out to a wonderful restaurant for dinner(we had a baby sitter). On Sunday I received a card from Michael, a card from Adam and a gift certificate for a one hour in-home massage! Woo-hoo!!

Receiving the charge as Christian parents to raise Michael in the knowledge and wisdom of the Lord from our pastor.

Trying to hold back the tears...tears of joy and gratitude!

Michael's smile makes Mommy smile.

Praying over Michael.

Tickled!!

So Michael and I were in the mall yesterday. Of course people can't help but stop and "ooh and aah" over my precious boy! Well, two ladies (strangers) stopped to look at him. They glanced at me and then at Michael, back at me and then at him again. Then said, "Well my goodness he has his Mommy's eyes!" I admit I loved hearing that and it just absolutely tickled me! I didn't correct them, because he is my son and we do look alike...it wasn't necessary to say, "Yes, well he is adopted..." Instead I smiled and said, "Thank you." It tickles me that my God not only blessed us with a healthy, sweet-natured, beautiful child, but he added the extra touch of having him resemble us. Isn't that just like Him? If you are waiting on something just hold onto to Jesus and wait...the morning is coming! Remember my post from this time last year...

Do you wonder why you have to
Feel the things that hurt you
If there’s a God who loves you where is He now

Maybe there are things you can’t see
And all those things are happening
To bring a better ending

Someday somehow you’ll see you’ll see

Would you dare would you dare to believe
That you still have a reason to sing
Cause the pain that you’ve been feeling
It can’t compare to the joy that’s coming

So hold on you gotta wait for the light
Press on and just fight the good fight
Cause the pain that you’ve been feeling
It’s just the dark before the morning

My friend you know how this all ends
You know where you’re going
You just don’t know how you’ll get there
So say a prayer

And hold on cause there’s good for those who love God
But life is not a snapshot
It might take a little time but you’ll see the bigger picture

Once you feel the weight of glory
All your pain will fade to memory

It’s just the hurt before the healing
Oh the pain that you’ve been feeling
It’s just the dark before the morning

And now look at this year...
I have to admit that I am so looking forward to my first Mother's Day! For the past few years Mother's Day has been the worst day of the year for me...Not being a mother and wanting a child so badly AND my precious mother being in Heaven. It got to the point I couldn't bare to go to church on Mother's Day, just too sad and emotional. But this year I will be CELEBRATING!!!! Praise God for Michael's birth mother and the amazing gift she has given me, my son!
My Mother's Day weekend has already started out great! Play date with friends this morning. Adam brought me flowers when he came home and we have a date night tonight!
